Isis King to appear in all-star installment of 'America's Next Top Model'
Isis King, the first transgender contestant to appear as a finalist on "America's Next Top Model" is coming back to national television as part of the show's 17th season, which has an all-star theme.
The 25-year-old New York City resident, who is originally from Prince George's County, will be one of 14 memorable models from past shows picked for a second chance to sashay their way to potential modeling contracts, cash and other prizes. (The winner of the show will have a contract with Covergirl Cosmetics, a spread in Vogue Italia, an Express fashion campaign and the opportunity to become a correspondent on "Extra.") The new season will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
"I'm excited to see my client Isis King in cycle 17 of ‘America's Next Top Model (All-Star Edition),’” said King’s manager Delano when reached for comment this morning. “It's great that Tyra (Banks) has said herself ‘Isis is the most talked about Top Model in the history of the show.’”
The news comes as a surprise to fans of the show who have followed King's career since she was eliminated three years ago during cycle 11 of the show. She finished 10th in that installment.
As recent as November King said that she had no intention of returning to the world of professional modeling.
“Modeling is something that I did for fun,” King said in an interview with The Baltimore Sun in November 2010. “My aspiration is to be successful with art. Of course I will continue to freelance model, but my aspirations were never to be a supermodel. Being a model means that you are a blank canvas. I'm already an entity. I'm already my own person. I've transformed into this amazing person. I can never see myself as a blank canvas.”
At that time, King said she was pushing an acting career—she had a role in a short film, “Bella Maddo.” In addition, she expressed interest in working as a makeup artist and hair stylist.
“I'm very creative,” she said in the November interview. “I have a lot of personality. You didn't get a chance to see it on the show.”
King is scheduled to participate in the upcoming Baltimore Fashion Week. In June, she signed a contract that will have her attend the event as a front-row guest on Aug. 19. She will also model clothing for several designers the following two nights. Baltimore Fashion Week runs Aug. 18-21.
“Isis is excited about Baltimore Fashion Week and looks forward to seeing all the designers and strutting her stuff on the runway,” Delano said.

Rihanna Struts In Armani Underwear
While were still talking about Rihanna going back to Chris Brown, she, meanwhile has has filmed her first advertisement for Armani.
The 23-year-old sexy star, who was named the face and body of the brands underwear and jeans collection last summer, is featured in the ad acting out a bad dream in the dreamy black and white video. Clearly Rihanna looks like a million bucks.
Rihanna also previously posed for photographs for the campaign in her underwear, which saw her win the Sexiest Advert of 2011 accolade by Advertising Age.
The magazine commented: "It's Rihanna at her sexiest. She's never looked this good. She's in amazing shape and the pictures are stunning."
Rihanna unveiled a clothing collection for the Italian fashion house last November. Other celebrities to have modelled for the Italian fashion house include Megan Fox, David Fox, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Hmmm, now Id like to see an even sexier ad featuring Rihanna and David Beckham. It sure would be hot.

Ten of the UK's best vintage reproduction clothing sources
After a month filled with much online vintage shopping (or at least a ton of virtual window shopping and a bit of buying) ,as I go about trying to fill in many of the gaps in my wardrobe, it seems fitting to wrap up the very last day of January with a post that ties into that fact.
On the other side of the giant pond, the fine folks in the UK know a thing or two about vintage reproduction clothing. In fact, I'd tentatively argue that the UK has more vintage repro clothing sellers than the US, and certainly more good ol' Canada (which is woefully lacking in this area).
For those vintage fashionistas who live in the UK and elsewhere in Europe, I'd imagine that this must be ultra handy and a great way to regularly update your closet with excellent old school style threads.
So long as we're willing to face somewhat steep exchange rates however, those of us outside of Europe can often avail of the products such UK vintage reproduction retailers offer online. In the past couple of months I've placed my first ever (but very long anticipated) orders with two such sellers, and had sparklingly wonderful transactions with both.
As such, I decided to put together a list of ten vintage reproduction clothing sellers, including the two I've ordered from myself (Freddies of Pinewood and Heyday Vintage, both of which had excellent customer service), as I know many of you are also continually on the prowl for good quality reproduction/vintage inspired styles from our favourite mid-twentieth century decades.
Here then is a roundup of ten terrific vintage reproduction clothing sellers from the UK. Happy wish list making and online shopping!
Big Beautiful Barbara Brown: Offers a wide selection of 1920s - 50s reproduction garments, plus some rockabilly wear, and even a handful of 60s and 70s styles, too. Vintage inspired pieces include high waisted trousers, playsuits, skirts, tops, suits, dresses (such as the darling ruffle sleeved Flirty Thirties frock pictured above), and shorts. Most items are available in an assortment of different types fabric and/or patterns in a wide array of sizes, and are made on a per-order basis.
Dolly Dagger: All sorts of delightful vintage inspired and rockabilly styles abound at this fun site, which houses skirts, jeans, dresses, sweaters (like the wonderfully cute Nautical Nancy sweater shown above) shoes, stockings, swimwear, coats, purses, jewelry, hair accessories, and much more.
Freddies of Pinewood: Known the vintage repro loving world over for their top-notch selection of both women's and men's denim (such as the classic side button jeans shown here), Freddie's also offers customers shirts, jackets, capri pants, overalls (dungarees), and accessories.
Heyday Vintage: Housing a roundup of really lovely 1940s and 50s inspired dresses, trousers, tops, and suits, Heyday is one of the vintage world's most loved sources of reproduction sites. I recently ordered their Fleur wrap dress (named after, and model by, well-known vintage blogger Fleur from Diary of a Vintage Girl) in the English Rose on white pattern and cannot gush about it enough!
Lady K Loves: To quote the homepage of this site itself, Lady K Love features "high quality clothes for rockabilly gals, pin up chicks, and kool katz". While many styles do channel an alluring pin-up vibe, others such as the 1940s inspired Rosie trousers shown here, have a somewhat more "every day" feel to them.
Puttin on the Ritz: With a name that instantly evokes images of chic, fabulously fashionable vintage nightlife, this high end vintage reproduction clothing seller offers a striking array of beautiful dresses, blouses, jackets, skirts, trousers, suits, coats (like the timelessly pretty April in Paris coat pictured here), eveningwear, and accessories, as well as a selection of garments for gentlemen, too.
Revival: With areas devoted to styles from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, plus swing dance and men's wear, too, Revival's assortment of old school inspired clothing and shoes is sure to provide you with a few new must-have items. If ever I wanted to tap into my inner 1920s flapper gal, I'd be highly tempted to pick up Revival's vibrant red Tango Dress shown above.
Tara Starlet: Boasting a highly pretty gathering of feminine vintage inspired looks in the form of dresses, tops, skirts (such as the wonderfully wearable Victory Skirt shown here in red and white houndstooth), playsuits, party dresses, bottoms, suits, outerwear, accessories, and more, Tara Starlet's pieces are just the ticket when you're in the mood to mix demure and alluring.
20th Century Foxy: Chocked full of pieces spanning looks from the 30s to 60s, this site is a vintage reproduction clothing lover's dream and includes items as diverse as crinolines (aka, petticoats, like the ruby red number shown here) to knitwear, hosiery to shoes, dresses, headwear, hair flowers, separates, coats and much more.
Vivian of Holloway: Undoubtedly one of the web's best known vintage reproduction sellers, Vivian of Holloway's inviting selection includes a bounty of dresses, tops, skirts, trousers, and accessories (such as snoods, jewelry, flowers, belts, and petticoats). I'm particularly smitten with their pinafore trousers in blue denim highlighted in the image here.
? ? ?
This list certainly does not cover every last seller (be they a company or individual) who is currently producing vintage inspired garments in the UK, but it's a great jumping off point if you're looking to do some overseas shopping.
As time rolls on, I hope to shop with all of the sellers listed above, and would absolutely love to hear about your own experiences with these (and/or any other) online UK vintage reproduction sellers.
Oh, and should any of you happen to be, or know of, Canadian repro sources for 40s and 50s garments, definitely feel free to spill the beans!

A zesty, crowd pleasing 1950s creamy coleslaw recipe
It's interesting, depending on who you ask, most people generally think of cabbage as either being more of a winter, or conversely, a summer vegetable. It's easy to see why this is the case when you compare the various dishes that cabbage is often included in.
During the dark, bitingly cold days of winter, one may turn to hearty cabbage rolls, soups laden with stringy strips of cabbage, or perhaps a warming helping of that fabulous Irish classic, colcannon. When the mercury starts skyrocketing, cabbage quickly appears in fresh green salads, Asian rice paper wraps, on veggie platters, and sometimes even as a Jell-o salad ingredient.
While tied a little more closely to summer, it's safe to say that coleslaw is one cabbage dish that does a particularly good job of transcending the seasons. It can be served as part of a barbeque spread, picnic lunch, supper of cold cuts in when the sun is shinning, or alternatively with roast meats, alongside grilled sandwiches, or as a refreshing side dish partner for any number of warm foods during the frosty fall and winter months (if you've not tried it before, I highly recommend making yourself a coleslaw and turkey sandwich, it's heavenly!).
Today's vintage recipe for coleslaw is a creamy one centered around Miracle Whip (you could easily use store bought or homemade mayonnaise instead, if you'd prefer) and the tangy, wonderfully yummy inclusion of tarragon vinegar (if you don't have any on hand, simply add some finely chopped fresh tarragon to white vinegar).
Tarragon - which deserve far more play than it gets, if you asks me - is an alluring, deeply flavourful herb that pairs well with everything from fish to eggs, chicken to lamb, so you can can easily saddle this 1950s coleslaw alongside a wide range of savoury dishes.
{Fabulous with hot meals - like grilled meats, burgers, or ears of piping hot corn - or cold supper alike during the sweltering summer months, coleslaw is a side dish that deserves some love all year long. Vintage Miracle Whip Coleslaw recipe by way of salty cotton on Flickr.}
If however, you (or other members of your family) are not huge tarragon fans, there's no reason you couldn't use a different herb vinegar (I've made also a similar recipe before with mayonnaise and the zest of from blood oranges, that is thoroughly delicious alongside all manner of grilled meats and vegetables), and by all means, feel free to toss in some carrot, celery, fennel, or spring (green) onion, if you'd like to up the veggie content in this great dish even further.
So while certain cabbage dishes are indeed most often associated with certain seasons, I've never felt like coleslaw needed to be tucked away on the proverbial shelf and only brought out when the dog days of summer arrive.
In fact, come to think of it, I probably eat more coleslaw (alongside roasted or pan-fried meats and veggies) in the winter than I do in the summer. No matter the time of the year though, I'm always up for a fantastic, creamy coleslaw like this great 1950s classic.
