It only took three hours for the song to hit the top spot on iTunes, beating the last record holder Taylor Swift, who took five hours to go to No. 1 with Mine.
However, Gaga's new song has received mixed reviews from listeners worldwide. While some found her trying too hard, others, especially hard core fans, think it is a brilliant number.
I found the song somewhat similar to Madonna's '80s hit single Express Yourself (which is totally fine with me!). That's hardly surprising because Gaga has revealed she is very much influenced by Madonna's music. It is like she's paying homage to her idol, right? After all, this is not the first Gaga song that sounds like a Madonna number; Alejandro has shades of La Is La Bonita!
Verdict: I love Gaga's Born This Way and can't wait to see how the visionary singer will present it in video format. Listen to the single here.
Hello? Do you like my new single?

It's a huge-sounding single with a pulsating beat and a love-yourself message that's bound to pack dancefloors. Billboard
Born This Way is a thumping, almost disco anthem that stomps along until the chorus crashes in with the weight of a discarded meat dress. Guardian
No one can carry a hook like Lady Gaga, and the chorus on Born This Way is nothing short of a monster. artistdirect.com
Just listened to a clip of Lady Gaga Born This Way and I gotta say ... sounds a lot like Express Yourself from Madonna. Thoughts? OK. Good. A lotta peeps are saying the same thing so maybe I won't get raked over the coals. Chris Daughtry
I just heard Born This Way and loved it. DON'T BE A DRAG JUST BE A QUEEN. Hayley Williams
